NeighborWorks America announced the election of Rodney E. Hood as its board chair, effective June 23. Hood succeeds Martin Gruenberg of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

As the nation celebrates National Homeownership Month in June and how to increase opportunities for future homeowners, NeighborWorks America is proud to have increased the number of urban homeowners it has preserved by 97% since fiscal year 2020.

Starting today, new federal rules may affect how much people pay for a mortgage backed by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. The changes are designed to make homeownership more accessible and level the playing field for homebuyers. NeighborWorks America's expert is available to discuss how the new mortgage fee changes impact homebuyers and how sustainable, affordable homeownership is more likely to flourish if one receives housing counseling and financial coaching.

Second event in year-long symposia series to highlight advancing equity for people of color; real estate convening will discuss embedding resident-led practices in real estate development. 

As Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month begins in May, NeighborWorks America’s expert is available to discuss issues threatening affordable housing for Asian American people. For example, the effects of gentrification like soaring rents and displacement in Chinatowns across the U.S. are hindering Asian American people’s quality of life.

On May 3, a symposium “It takes a village: Achieving Black wealth and economic prosperity” will highlight solutions to create generational wealth for Black families. The symposium is the second in a year-long series on advancing equity for people of color and is part of the San Francisco NeighborWorks Training Institute (May 1-5), a weeklong event that provides comprehensive professional education and training for housing and community development professionals

Rev. Norman Fong, immediate past executive director of Chinatown Community Development Center (San Francisco, California), and Donald R. Phoenix (Atlanta, Georgia), former regional vice president for NeighborWorks America's Southern Region, are the 2023 recipients of the NeighborWorks Founders Award.

NeighborWorks America will provide more than $79 million in grants to the 247 organizations that make up the NeighborWorks network, investing critical resources to increase access to safe, affordable housing and thriving communities in every state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
