NeighborWorks America celebrates 40th annual week of service

NeighborWorks network empowers people to prepare for homeownership through housing counseling and financial coaching, helps increase access to homeownership

Washington, D.C. — NeighborWorks America and its network of local organizations across the U.S. will celebrate NeighborWorks Week June 3-10. Throughout this week, NeighborWorks network organizations will commemorate how NeighborWorks and residents come together to empower people to transform their lives through homeownership. As National Homeownership Month approaches in June, and first-time buyers face high mortgage rates and home prices, NeighborWorks America and its network are helping to reduce barriers to homeownership.

"NeighborWorks network organizations create a bridge to opportunity and advancement," said Katie Watts, senior vice president of Field Operations. "Whether people are seeking affordable housing, financial resilience, or another life-changing goal, NeighborWorks organizations equip people with the information and resources they need to transform their lives and improve their communities."

Here are some examples that highlight NeighborWorks America and its network's impact
  • In fiscal year 2022, NeighborWorks America, through its network, created 18,800 new homeowners.
  • In fiscal year 2022 NeighborWorks America, through its network, provided 415,800 total housing and counseling services.
  • In fiscal year 2022, NeighborWorks America, through its network, owned and/or managed 204,900 homes.
  • In fiscal year 2022, 41% of NeighborWorks clients increased their savings due to financial capability strategies such as financial coaching.
During NeighborWorks Week, you can find events in communities all across the country that highlight how network organizations are helping to empower communities to succeed. This year, nearly 200 organizations are planning more than 150 NeighborWorks Week events. A few examples of this year's NeighborWorks Week activities:
  • Affordable Housing Alliance (AHA) (Neptune, New Jersey) will host a Homeownership Promotion and Preservation Day, where people can learn about first-time homebuyer education and after-purchase counseling and homeownership preservation.
  • Community Housing Improvement Program (Chico, California) will hold an event at its Rancho de Soto Apartments in Orland, California, which house farm laborers. The event will have food and fun games for families, have an apartment open for touring, and provide resources to those in the area looking for safe, affordable housing.
  • Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership (ANDP) (Atlanta, Georgia) will host "Neighbors Together," an annual training for south metro Atlanta-based resident leaders. All components of the training event are being planned by our 2022 Community Leadership Institute (CLI) team as part of their CLI project. Neighbors Together will be held at the Dennard Conference Center at Atlanta Technical College on Saturday, June 10. The event will include community development focused training as well as a facilitated panel discussion including elected officials from five south metro jurisdictions.
  • Beyond Housing (St. Louis, Missouri) will strengthen community relationships and pride with Pick Up & Pitch, where volunteers from the community, local businesses, and Beyond Housing staff/partners will come together to clean-up the streets and sidewalks we all share. Throughout the event, we will also have volunteers put up anti-littering signs to encourage community respect and cleanliness.
