Birute Skurdenis is an asset manager with Merritt Community Capital Corporation, a nonprofit tax credit syndicator. Besides managing a portfolio of affordable housing in Northern California, she also provides training and coaching to nonprofits on affordable housing management issues and low income housing tax credit compliance. She has worked in affordable housing management since 1986. Before joining Merritt, Skurdenis provided management and organizational consulting and training to nonprofits through the California Housing Partnership Corporation and was a senior staff member with The John Stewart Company, a private property management firm specializing in third party affordable housing management. She was responsible for overseeing a portfolio of affordable housing for families, elderly and special needs populations. As a property manager and a consultant, she has worked with more than 60 different nonprofit housing development organizations. Skurdenis has a master’s degree in social work organization, planning and administration from the University of California at Berkeley.
