According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) a community-centric approach for emergency management offers a more effective path to building societal security and resilience. This approach should focus on strengthening and leveraging what works well in communities on a daily basis. This course will teach participants fundamental strategies and skills to create strong, localized social networks that can increase the response and recovery resiliency of a community when hit by a natural or ‘human made’ disaster. Participants will learn how to connect community organizations with existing emergency response and management structures.
