design, materials and methods choices which will allow for easier, safer and more
sustainable use of housing regardless of the age or ability of the occupant.
This two-day course will clarify issues of universal design, visitability and accessibility
in affordable housing production from a nonprofit practitioner’s point of view. Principles

plans, engineering drawings and a virtual tour of a house.
Low cost and no-cost options, as well as intergration of universal design and visitability
with green and energy efficient measures are featured.
A fast-growing number of local visitability ordinances and increasing universal design
requirements from state funding agencies, as well as market demand trends in an aging
