CB340 Effective Community Engagement: Developing Personal Accountability and Responsibility

How do we build an effective group of leaders who are accountable and take responsibility in our organizations and communities? The answer lies in how we build effective relationships among those who are, or could be part of the group. But we must start with ourselves by reflecting on our own approach to the mission and work, on how we model leadership and how our actions encourage or hinder leadership and accountability in others.

This advanced course will create a context for effective community engagement by involving participants in a series of conversations, each are designed to challenge participants to consider their own levels of engagement. The result of this encounter is to demonstrate how an individual participant can, by engagement, build an accountable and sustainable community or organization. This course is a unique opportunity to engage in a series of challenging conversations exploring our own commitment; as we understand it, and as others may perceive it, to demonstrate and understand how to build an accountable and sustainable group of leaders or staff.

The course is based on Peter Block’s Civic Engagement: Accountability and Responsibility. Preparation for the course involves reading Peter Block's The Answer to How Is Yes, or his summary article, "Strategy for Civic Engagement," found under the tab “About” in “articles”, on his website http://www.designedlearning.com.
