Senior Vice President, Controller
Yonas Tessema joined NeighborWorks America in 1994 and became senior vice president and controller in November of 2017. Yonas is responsible for the internal and external financial reporting, accounts payable, cash management and department's financial support. Throughout his career, he has enjoyed a reputation for mentoring staff as an accomplished leader, is an expert in change management and has a proven track record of providing strategic direction and oversight to ensure the organization's financial soundness. In 2012, he received NeighborWorks America's Living the Values Award for embodying the core organizational values of results, integrity, community and effectiveness.
Yonas had previously held a variety of senior financial management positions with NeighborWorks, including director of finance, senior financial manager, financial manager and senior financial analyst. Prior to joining NeighborWorks, Yonas began his career as a corporate tax preparer with Financial Management Reporting System Inc.
Yonas holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of the District of Columbia.
